My sister-in-law gave me a discount card to try out Home Chef. A while back we used Plated, but that was during a time where I canceled all my subscription boxes in lieu of keeping Stitch Fix and being able to spend more on clothes. I have really been in a cooking slump the past few months and with my resolution to eat better this year I felt like I should give this a try. Our grocery stores suck around here and we can’t get decent meat or vegetables, so I love the different things I can try from the food subscription boxes. So, in comes the Home Chef trial!
You start off my creating a profile and choosing what kind of meals you’d like. Each week you can choose which meals you’d like to receive and what shipment day you’d like. You can even choose to add fresh fruit and/or smoothies every week! The meals are $9.95 per serving and you have to order a minimum of 2 servings per week for them to ship. So you can’t just get one meal to try them out, you’d have to get 2. But when using a special link, you get $30 off, so that’s 2 meals FREE and completely worth trying it out. So for my first shipment I chose a steak meal and a chicken meal with 2 plates each. I didn’t get the kids any meals because they are super picky and never eat what we eat.
Everything comes packaged out separately so you know which ingredients go with which meal and everything is nicely labeled. Best part is you don’t even have to be home to accept delivery because the shipments come in an insulated box with a ton of ice packs! Convenience is key because if you’re like me you don’t have time to be sitting around waiting for a package all day.
Also included in the box were the recipe cards and a nifty binder to keep them in. I LOVE the binder idea because it is a great way to keep them stored and be able to easily look back on if you want to recreate a part of a recipe.
We made the chicken meal first and let me tell you….. YUM! The red wine sauce was so unbelievably good my husband and I both could have doused everything in it or just drank it from a cup. The mushrooms were so good and tender, and the kale… Well, the kale was okay. Neither of us are a big fan of kale but with it being a super food and all, we both at it all. I just didn’t feel like it wilted enough for my taste; it was still a bit tough.
Overall I really enjoyed receiving this box. We still have one more meal to make from the first shipment but I’ve already picked my meals for the next 2 shipments and are eagerly awaiting them! If you’d like to try Home Chef and receive $30 off your first order, click HERE.
