Today I ran my very first 5k – The Mississippi State Games 5k Road Race! I have done a few color runs and a glow run for charity, but I have never tried to run an entire 5k. I started training at the beginning of April and I honestly thought I would never get this far. I have tried the couch to 5k program numerous times and I have failed every time because I hated running. I hated all the flopping around I felt, I couldn’t breath, I didn’t have any stamina, etc. I just knew I would quit this time, too, but I DIDN’T! I didn’t come in last and I beat my goal time of 45 minutes. My husband and kids even came out to surprise me at the finish line. I am beyond proud of myself! I have gone from only being able to run about 30 seconds at a time to being able to run over a mile before needing to take a break and walk some. I have gone from hating running to actually enjoying it and looking forward to my next run. I may not be fast, and I may never win or even place, but I am getting out there and doing something and I feel damn good about that!
